The project explored the idea that digital tags (NFC, QR codes etc.) could add a new dimension to the cityscape and could serve as access points for various mobile-based, contextual services (e.g. Tourist information, Traffic Management, Information and Event management etc.) in the city of Helsinki. The project was undertaken for and with Forum Virium, Helsinki (http://www.forumvirium.fi/en/), a cooperation cluster promoted by the City of Helsinki.
It involved proposing and visualizing potential services, mapping the ecosystem around those and suggesting associated business models for the key actors. Among other activities, the project entailed a field trip to China (Beijing and Shanghai), extensive research & benchmarking, discussions with stakeholders and prototyping concepts.
