Design Factory India (DFI), inspired by the Aalto Design Factory (ADF), Finland is an under-development, experimental, physical and mental platform for interdisciplinary learning, design thinking and co-creation of new product and service concepts. In India, Design Factory is a part of the larger and upcoming Design Village initiative. In its current avatar, the platform brings together talented, university level students from varied backgrounds to work on 2-4 month long industry sponsored product / service / system / concept design projects.
In my role as a ‘Factory Manager’ during the summer, along with rest of the core team, I helped co-design and establish the platform and the associated philosophical and operational models from the grounds up while adapting the elements of the mother-ship (ADF) to Indian context.
I was also a key member of the core team responsible for planning, designing and executing the DFI launch festivities including a 2-day design workshop (PD6+) involving interdisciplinary student teams working on design briefs provided by corporate sponsors and a subsequent presentation at the Finnish Embassy in India.
